As an update to the ongoing dispute over Fed price fixing of debit card interchange fees, progress is being made - thanks to the many voices crying out against government price fixing of private enterprise pricing. With the barrage of letters, emails and calls to the Fed and the regulators, both the FDIC and now the Comptroller of Currency have asked the Fed to reconsider their ruling. There is a good chance it will be repealed before implementation. Thanks for your help in attempting to defeat this harmful piece of legislation. Government needs to get out and stay out of private business - this as they can't seem to manage their own business of governing! J.R. Smail, Chairman
As you may have read or heard on the national news media in the past couple of months, our government bureaucrats have issued a new regulation that will have the unintended consequences of forcing community banks like ours into an impossible decision - either raise fees or stop offering debit cards altogether. By the new regulation capping the amount that retailers pay to accept debit cards, it will end up forcing you to pay higher fees, receive fewer rewards and possibly even the loss of standard services like free online banking or free checking. You shouldn't have to pay more just because giant retailers don't want to pay their own bills. It's not too late to stop this harmful regulation, tell your Congressman - "Don't Make Us Pay!" Visit this web site www.SaveMyDebitCard.org and fight this harmful regulation.
Thanks
J.R. Smail, Chairman
